Within Reason to Perform at Foothills Festival in Jasper
78 Magazine recently caught up with Chris Dow, headman of Within Reason, a Birmingham-based rock band that is rising to the top (and shaking some skulls along the way). Within Reason, winner of GRAMMY awards “Gig of a Lifetime” will be performing in downtown Jasper at the Foothills Festival this Saturday from 4-5 p.m. Check out the interview, followed by a press release about Chase Davidson, backup vocals for the band and Jasper native. 
78: Why did the band decide to do the Foothills Festival in Jasper? CD: We have been trying to play in Jasper for quite some time and didn't have a venue that would book original acts so this was the perfect fit for us.78: What is it about local, live performances that you especially enjoy? CD: Shows close to home are always packed and festival style concerts are our favorites as well. We are really looking forward to a large crowd in Jasper.
78: How has living in Alabama (and living in the South) shaped your music? CD: We started playing while in college at The University of Alabama so it reminds us this is where it all began for us. We tour the nation now, but will always remember where home is.
78: Who are your musical influences? CD: Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Linkin Park, Rage Against the Machine, and many more78: What is it that you value about music and musical performance?CD: Being able to do what I truly love every day and the rush when performing in front of a large crowd singing our songs back to us. Every day is an adventure. I am truly blessed.78: In what ways did "Gig of a Lifetime" help the band to gain more exposure (and possibly more opportunities)?CD: Networking while there was a huge help for us. Our social media has gone through the roof. It has also given a level of credibility to our resume that is constantly helping open even more doors. Within Reason has risen to fame on the music scene since their beginning in 2005. Shortly after their formation, the band was chosen to perform on the hit show, “One Tree Hill.” Since the performance, Within Reason hasn’t stopped gaining notoriety. Their successful first full-length album “Bloodshot Life” allowed the band to go on the road with acts including Brett Michaels, Halestorm, and P.O.D.The band released another album, “After the Crawl,” which led to the band performing with the famous UPROAR festival in 2012 featuring Shinedown and Staind. After the festival, the band’s following continued to grow, and Within Reason won the GRAMMY® “Gig of a Lifetime” competition besting more than 2,500 bands across the country with millions of votes cast. This afforded the band an opportunity to play at the Clive Davis Theater; they were featured during the GRAMMY® telecast and walked the red carpet at the GRAMMY® Awards.The band has been featured in many publications with rave reviews, including Peter Grumbine of CBS and Last.fm, who said, “Within Reason are pros.
