Alabama Teacher Tells the Inspirational Story of Education that Touches the Heart

4JASPER, AL—Have you ever wondered if the classroom is about more than the curriculum and standardized testing? Longtime Alabama teacher Luajuana Brasfield tells her story reflecting the true heart of education—the story of teachers, students, and love—in her new book Hope Menders, to be released on Amazon June 1.Brasfield has been an educator in Alabama schools for over thirty-five years. She was inspired to become a “hope mending educator,” an educator who not only taught their qualified subject (Brasfield’s being math), but worked to instill hope and dreams into her students and be a Christian role model for them. After 25 years of classroom teaching, she began traveling in order to spread her hope menders mission. Her most recent travels have led her to The Black Belt, Alabama’s poorest area.Brasfield’s passion for education and compassion for her students and fellow teachers led her to tell their stories in her book Hope Menders: A Journey to the Heart of Education. In the book, she reveals the emotional and inspirational stories of students living with the pain of poverty, abuse, and neglect, and the teachers who mend their broken hope with love. The stories told in the book span over 40 years, beginning in Brasfield’s own school days. “This book is about becoming more than you are, reaching for more than you dreamed, and empowering others to become the change the world longs for,” she says.Brasfield has been traveling the state of Alabama as a presenter at speaking engagements and events. She has spoken at schools and organizations, such as Bankhead Middle School, Walker High School, and Jasper Rotary Club. She has been the presenter at state and national conferences, including High Schools that Work, Best Practices Conference, Alabama Education Mega Conference, Stephen Peters National “No Child Left Out” Conference, and several others.Visit www.HopeMenders.com and click on the Amazon link to purchase the book Hope Menders, or to learn more about the hope menders movement.
