Jasper Main Street to Host Tallulah Tribute Weekend

 Jasper, AL – It’s that time again, dah-lings! For the third consecutive year, Jasper Main Street happily announces the Tallulah Bankhead Tribute Weekend. The tribute will begin on Thursday, June 8th with a showing of Disney’s 1961 film 101 Dalmatians at the Bankhead House amphitheater, beginning at dusk (the character of Cruella De Vil is said to be inspired by Tallulah Bankhead herself).Tallulah was a popular stage and film actress in the 1930s and 40s, starring in films like Devil and the Deep and Lifeboat. Known for her husky voice, outrageous personality, and strong wit, Tallulah Bankhead resided in Jasper much of her life. From Thursday, June 8th to Saturday, June 10th, Jasper Main Street will remember the life of Tallulah Bankhead through a series of community events and activities.The weekend will continue on Friday, June 9 with a performance by the Velcro Pygmies. The show is free to the public and will begin at 7:00 PM in downtown Jasper’s courthouse square.Concluding the weekend will be the Tallulah Half Marathon, 5K, one-mile Fun Run, and the Kid’s Half Marathon Program 1-mile entry on Saturday, June 10 beginning at 7:00 AM. Each run will start and finish in downtown Jasper’s courthouse square. The presenting sponsor, PowerAde, will be served at refreshment stops throughout the runs.Recently announced was the union of the Simmons at Sunset 5K and the Tallulah Half. Registering for Simmons at Sunset (May 12) will provide runners with a discount code for the Tallulah Half.
