MONTGOMERY, Ala. – On Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Greg Reed welcomed the news that the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) has awarded a grant of $36,790 to the Walker County Community Action Agency.“The staff at the Community Action Agency does a terrific job of giving people the tools they need to achieve economic self-sufficiency - from connecting unemployed folks with companies that are hiring, to helping people enroll in GED classes and apply for college,” Reed said. “This grant will help people transition from dependence on government programs to achieving the self-reliance that comes with a steady job.”The Walker County Community Action Agency has served the citizens of Walker County since 1964. The $36,790 Community Service Block Grant will allow the Agency’s staff to help lower-income individuals find better jobs and pursue additional education, and teach families the basics of financial planning.“I want to thank Senator Reed for his support of our work – this grant is essential for the work we do in Walker County,” said Deidre Tatum, executive director of the Walker County Community Action Agency. “During the last fiscal year, our agency helped sixty-four people in Walker County find a job, and assisted over a thousand families with everything from budgeting classes to computer training programs for senior adults.
