A Walk Through Time: Victory Café in Parrish

Victory-Cafe.jpg

The Victory Cafe in Parrish was located across the street from the where the doctor’s clinic is now, next to the railroad. The cafe, owned and operated by Bessie “Bug” Poe,  sold hamburgers and various foods to school children and railroad workers from the 1950s to the 1970s.“Bug” kept a railroad radio in the window so she could take calls from the train workers for lunch orders. She kept an old jug box to the far right. Her favorite flowers were violets, which she kept on a flower stand.“Bug’s cousin “June Bug” Poe ran the train and stopped it daily for the workers to get lunch. The Victory Café later became McBee’s Café and was operated by Janice McBee. 78Follow 78 Magazine on Facebook and Instagram.
