Soul of 78-Brandi Preston

“This month makes 11 years that I’ve been working here at Southern Orthopedic. At the time, I was working in Birmingham for Alabama Ophthalmology, but I knew that wasn’t the direction I wanted to take my career. I went to school to become an x-ray technician and worked at Walker Baptist when I finished my program. I knew I wanted to get back to that, and when I found out there was a side desk position open at Southern Orthopedic, I applied. I was hopeful that if I could get my foot in the door, I could work my way into an x-ray tech position – and that’s what I’ve been doing for the past 10 years now.

All of the doctors here are great to work for. They’re all so different, and they all have different bedside manner, so there’s a perfect fit for every patient. Although they all work a bit differently, at the end of the day, they all have the same vision – for this to be a place where the community can enjoy a traditional, small town feel, with cutting edge technology and personalized patient care.

When I’m not at work, I love to run – as awful as that sounds. It’s definitely something that you have to make time for, but once you do it, you feel great. My husband likes to run, and we’ve gotten our girls into a little too. We like to run in our neighborhood, and downtown too. It’s a love hate relationship. Nobody loves to run – but once you start doing it you feel better and it’s a great accomplishment. You push your body to do things you didn’t think you could do. And, it allows you to meet people...especially other crazy people that like that kind of punishment!”
