A Walk Through Time-Armistice Day Parade, Cordova

This photo from November 11, 1918, shows Red Cross nurses from Walker County marching in the Armistice Day Parade in Cordova. The festivities were to celebrate the end of World War I. The parade is heading south down Main Street. In the background you can see the Long Memorial Church. The large building on the left is the old Tallulah Hotel.Cordova was originally a settlement called "Dent" or "Dent's Place on the Mulberry Fork of the Black Warrior River. In 1859, Captain Benjamin M. Long named the city “Cordova” after a city in Mexico where he was stationed during the Mexican War.
