Shovels plunged into dirt this past Tuesday as a group of county and community leaders celebrated the next phase of Blackwell Meadows subdivision.
Viking Development, headed by Jasper natives Chuck and Matt Norris, has partnered with Smith Douglas Homes, a regional developer based out of Woodstock, Georgia, to build 35 new home sites in the coveted subdivision in northeast Jasper.
The story begins in 2004, when the Norris brothers saw a housing need in Jasper and began to construct a new subdivision off of Blackwell Dairy Road. Some might have questioned their decision at the time, but as families began to settle in, doubts about the project dissipated. Today over 100 homes have been built with more to come.
Teamwork was a theme at the dedication ceremony on Tuesday, as dozens gathered under a tent to celebrate the commencement of the project. Chuck Norris, who also owns a grading and paving company called Norris Paving, praised the Smith Douglas team, as well as local civic leaders who have been instrumental in facilitating the project. “The current leadership, the Mayor, David O’Mary, the Economic Development Board and many other civic leaders, is doing a great job and will continue to bring development to the city,” Norris said.
Keith Davis of Joseph Carter Realty, who will serve as the realtor representative for Viking and Smith Douglas, echoed Norris’ sentiments and underscored livability. “We are creating homes for families, and that is an extremely big deal for this community,” Davis said.
During his remarks, Mayor O’Mary cited residential development as the “key” to growing Jasper.
Over the next few years, Norris hopes to build between 150-200 new homes in the subdivision.
