Jasper, AL – This week the Walker County Probate Judge’s Office received the first installment of the county’s new voting equipment. Five of 90 new Poll Books, as well as the electronic voter check-in system, arrived this week. The other 85 poll books will be arriving in September along with the DS2000 ballot tabulators.

Probate Judge Lee Tucker utilized the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) 2020 funding made available by the Alabama Secretary of State’s office. The HAVA funds covered the initial cost of modernizing Walker County’s voting system. The funds purchased the poll books and covered the leasing cost of the DS2000 electronic system and software.

The Probate Judge’s Office is scheduled to begin internal training for the equipment in September and poll workers will be trained on the new user-friendly voting system in October.

“It was a great thing to hand over a $105,000 HAVA fund check to the County Commission,” said Probate Judge Lee Tucker.

Tucker says his office should have training and machines implemented for the general election on November 3.
