Bowen Chiropractic provides the healing touch—and a good workout, too

Like many Americans, Dr. Renee Philpot Bowen suffered from severe allergies until she experienced the healing power of spinal manipulation known as chiropractic. From an early age, she knew that God called her into healthcare but wasn’t clear on the specific area to pursue. The positive results from her chiropractic visits helped guide her decision.“I’ve been in practice for 36 years, and I have never regretted what I do,” Dr. Bowen says. “I love what I do. I love being in my hometown. I love working in Jasper.”

Dr. Bowen started her practice in 1984 after graduating with her chiropractic degree from Life College in Marietta, Georgia. Fast-forward to October 1993. While on maternity leave and pregnant with her oldest daughter, Clara, she purchased the office space for Bowen Family Chiropractic on North Airport Road in Jasper.

Twenty-six years later, that baby girl graduated with her doctorate from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange, Florida.

Dr. Clara has done extended study in the areas of soft tissue injuries and extremity adjusting. She also completed her preceptorship under the guidance of a treating doctor for US Olympic team. In January of this year, she was officially licensed as a chiropractor and came to work at her mother’s practice.

“The human body is beautifully interconnected,” Dr. Clara Bowen says. “Many people don’t realize pain in arms or legs often originates from the spine or an imbalance in another part of the body. Our job as a chiropractor is to heal with our hands.”

Bowen Family Chiropractic 31 Complete Health is both a traditional chiropractic office and a full-service gymnasium. The 2,400 square-foot state-of-the-art training facility is designed to take the bodies of both the general public and athletes to the next level.

“God is the healer. We are thankful He uses us,” Dr. Renee says. “We ask God daily to work through us and give us the knowledge we need for each patient. We do our part in constantly continuing our education.”

Dr. Renee is certified as a sports physician and in dry needling, and has a master’s degrees in both human Anatomy and Physiology Instruction. She also serves on the American Chiropractic Association Sports Council and on the Alabama Board of Chiropractic Examiners.

In addition to the doctoral mother-daughter duo, Bowen Family Chiropractic has a certified strength and conditioning specialist on staff. Blake Hobby has been with the office for five years and a majority of that time has been spent working in a rehabilitation role.

“I love everything about the environment at Bowen Family Chiropractic,” Blake says. “Everything feeds off each other. We have a lot of group fitness classes where patients have become clients and clients have become patients, because we believe in total health here.”

Bowen Family Chiropractic serves Jasper and the surrounding area with the latest chiropractic techniques, physical therapy, fitness classes, and strength training. Their classes are open to the public and provide doorways to a holistic lifestyle.

“My philosophy as a chiropractor is to get our patients stronger to achieve total health,” Dr. Renee says. “Total health includes mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing. It’s more than just recovering from an injury, but it’s getting our patients stronger to prevent reinjury.”

Both mother and daughter share a passionate approach to holistic medicine rooted in God’s call upon their lives to be in the medical field, their belief in the human body’s regenerative power when given a fighting chance, and their firsthand experience results of chiropractic medicine.

“I adjusted all of my children from day one and I can say that it has produced four healthy children,” says Dr. Renee.

The seams of a softball help construct the office’s logo, and the Bowens are well known in the community for being a baseball and softball family. Dr. Renee Bowen has rounded the metaphorical third base of her chiropractic career and is headed toward home plate, while her eldest daughter Dr. Clara Bowen has just stepped out of the batter’s box headed toward first base. And her youngest daughter, Collin Bowen, has just entered into training camp. Collin began her fourth quarter at Palmer College of Chiropractic this week.

“I’m hoping my baby girl will join us in practice in a couple years,” said Dr. Renee. “It is the best day ever to work with your children.” 78
