Meet Dr. Maggie Wilson, Jasper’s new orthopedic doctor

Dr. Margaret “Maggie” Wilson, M.D. has joined the orthopedic medical practice of Dr. Dan Morris, DO at The Bone & Joint Center. Her practice is located in the offices of Dr. Morris and Dr. Ike Baker at 1446 Jones Dairy Road in Jasper.

A native of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Dr. Wilson graduated from the University of Central Arkansas, then studied orthopedic medicine and did her residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. She moved to Jasper in August 2021 and began seeing patients in mid-November.

“I'm going to be treating general orthopedic problems but with the focus of hand and upper extremity. I'll be working at the hospital and the surgical center,” she explains.

Dr. Wilson’s family has been in medicine most of her life. As a young girl, she seemed destined to follow in their footsteps. “My dad's a PM&R (Physical Medicine and Rehab) doctor, my mom's a nurse, and my grandfather was a doctor as well. So, it's just something I grew up around and wanted to continue as part of the family,” she explains. “My dad took me to work with him and I would see patients with him and get a feel for everything.”

Before moving to Jasper, Dr. Wilson completed a year of training in hand orthopedics at the Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center in Pennsylvania. “Currently there are no hand-trained fellowship orthopedic surgeons here,” she says. “I have that specialty training and that kind of niche part of orthopedics, which nobody in Jasper has right now.”

Dr. Wilson says she enjoys hand surgery because it allows her to treat patients of all ages, from babies and children to adults and seniors. She says she revels in the challenge of solving a problem and helping a patient feel better.

“I see everything—from nerve problems to injuries to rheumatoid arthritis, etc.,” Dr. Wilson says. “I really like treating and being able to see a problem; like looking at an x-ray and visualizing a problem a patient is having and having a solution for it.”
