The aroma of the Lowcountry is coming to Jasper. On Friday, May 21, the Jasper Viking Quarterback Club will host a tailgate and Lowcountry shrimp boil fundraiser prior to the team’s spring football game with Hueytown.

The tailgate event, which begins at 4 p.m., will be held on the practice field behind Songer Gymnasium and will include live music, cornhole games, and a Viking Walk. Tailgating spaces and shrimp plates are currently being sold, and proceeds from the event will go toward a new weight room.

“The pairing of a tailgate and Lowcountry shrimp boil with the football game just makes sense, and we are excited about this event,” said Viking head football coach Philip Bailey. “Last year’s event was cancelled, so we are glad to be hosting a fun event for our community this year.”

Bailey says that several local businesses and parents have already reserved a tailgate spot and hopes that a successful event this year can turn into a yearly tradition.

“This football program has a rich heritage, and we want to create opportunities to strengthen that tradition,” Bailey said. “We hope that the tailgate can be something we look forward to every year.”  78
