Bevill State Community College Adult Education has formed a partnership with Hope for Women, LLC to provide program participants with GED preparation and Ready to Work (ACE) program opportunities. Classes began on-site at the Hope for Women location on October 17, 2022. Currently, the classes are meeting twice a week. The GED preparation program provides instruction and practice to individuals who wish to study for the GED test. Alabama's Ready to Work (ACE) program provides trainees with the entry-level skills required for employment with most businesses and industries in Alabama. Both programs are free to participants.

“The College strives to develop partnerships that will help both individuals and the communities we serve. Hope for Women is a successful, local addiction recovery program for women, facilitating their transformation into a healthy and productive life, free from drugs and alcohol. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), sustained recovery is significantly tied to a purposeful work-life balance. Employment is an important factor for achieving sustained recovery and financial independence. Bevill State seeks to provide supportive services that help individuals consider and pursue the training needed to achieve their work goals. I am very hopeful about the outcomes of this partnership,” stated Dr. Joel Hagood, President of Bevill State Community College.

“It is an honor for the Adult Education Program at Bevill State to provide services to the clients at Hope for Women. When we were approached by Ms. Quinn with the opportunity to form a partnership, we were ecstatic at the chance to be a part of such an important mission. We currently have three clients enrolled in our on-site GED Preparation Class and expect to enroll five to six clients into our Ready-to-Work (ACE) curriculum in the coming weeks. As we improve partnerships within the community, we are reminded how imperative it is for our services to be both accessible and beneficial to the growth and improvement of the students and communities we serve,” remarked Dr. Stephanie Maddox, Director of Adult Education at BSCC.

Debra Quinn, Executive Director of Hope for Women, LLC said, “We are excited to have the opportunity to partner with the Bevill State Adult Education program. Dr. Maddox and her team come to the center twice a week. They provide laptops and the tools needed for the clients to work towards their GED. We currently have three clients participating in the GED program. BSCC is also offering a Ready to Work (ACE) class. There are currently six Hope for Women clients participating in this program. We feel this will give them a better opportunity in the workforce. Hope for Women looks forward to growth in these programs as we continue to take in new clients.”
