78 Magazine, Jasper High Track Join Forces for 5K Event

Local runners will soon have an opportunity to compete in a race while supporting a good cause. The first annual 78 Magazine 5K and Fun Run will be held on Saturday, April 9 at Gamble Park in Jasper, and all proceeds for the event will benefit the Jasper High Track Team.

“The purpose of the event is to promote a healthy lifestyle and to raise money for our track program,” said Patrick Darwin, head track coach at Jasper High School.

Runners may preregister by visiting the Facebook event “78 Magazine 5K” and following the GoFan registration link or may register on the day of the event. The registration fee is $30.

The race will begin promptly at 8 a.m. on April 9 and the first 50 who register will receive a complimentary T-shirt. Awards will be given, and corporate sponsorships are available for $100.

“We are excited to partner with 78 Magazine to host a community 5K benefiting our running programs here at Jasper High School,” said Caroline Kamplain, head cross-country coach at Jasper High School. “Fitness is an essential part of a living healthy lifestyle and participating in 5Ks is one way you can help support local athletes while helping your overall health. We are thankful for community leaders and businesses, like 78 Magazine, who help fund our programs through events such as this. Come support Jasper High School Athletics on Saturday, April 9th at 8am at Gamble Park!”

“We wanted to be a part of this event for many reasons,” said Al Blanton, owner of 78 Magazine. “First and foremost, fundraising is critical to maintaining a viable athletic program, and hopefully the monies raised will help the kids who participate in track at Jasper High School. Secondly, with all we’ve gone through over the past two years, I believe it’s important to create things in our community to bring us together once again.”
