Eldridge Children’s Home Hosting Donut Dash 5k

Most of the time running and donuts don't go together, except at the 2nd Annual Donut Dash 5K and Fun Run. Held on Saturday, April 2, 2022, in Eldridge, Alabama, the race will benefit the Free Will Baptist Children's Home of Alabama. And the best part: The moment you cross the finish line, two delicious donuts are stuffed in your hands.

"The main goal for this event is to spread awareness,” said Free Will Baptist Children's Home Executive Director Amanda Mitchell. “Many people in Walker County and surrounding areas don't know we are here in Eldridge. We'd love to get people on our campus and see how we are providing a home for hurting children. We've seen from experience that once people visit our campus, they are touched deeply, and a piece of their heart is left at the Children's Home.”

Runners may preregister at the event online by visiting the Children's Home website and following the Run Signup link or register the day of the event. The registration fee for the 5K is $25 and $15 for the Fun Run. The 5K race will begin at 8 a.m., and the Fun Run will start at 8:45 a.m.

"Don't think you have to run the entire three miles,” says Mitchell. “We have some of our house parents and residents planning on walking it. They've been practicing doing those three miles and are having a lot of fun with it. This year, we are hoping for 50 participants. Last year was our first race, and we had 35 runners because of a good bit of rain."

Mitchell adds that the Children's Home is excited for the Donut Dash and hopes to see you on the first Saturday of April.
