BSCC CAREER PATHWAYS ACADEMY

Bevill State Community College (BSCC) Career Pathways Academy is open to high school students in Fayette, Marion, Walker, and north Tuscaloosa counties and Corner High School. This program exposes high school students to job opportunities in industry settings. Students learn about new career pathways and industry opportunities through career fairs, exploration camps, classroom and lab learning in a high demand/high wage industry training.

This program was designed to provide:

  • Provide a means to prepare highly qualified and motivated students for progression through a technical training program.

  • Offer student participants access to state-of-the-art industry equipment and standard training aids as part of the coursework built into the program allowing them to gain advanced skills necessary for today’s workforce.

  • Allow student participants to earn dual enrollment credit.

  • Expose student participants to robotics camp, career exploration, and job training.

  • Allow student participants to receive instruction that meets industry standards for advanced technology jobs at local industries.

  • Provide participating companies a ready-made pool of candidates from program graduates.

  • Award student participants with 6 credit hours of dual enrollment per term and a short-term certificate in Automated Manufacturing. Participants also have the option of adding 9 additional hours to receive a short-term certificate in Industrial Plant Technician.

  • Career Pathways Academy scholarships are offered annually on a competitive basis and provide all tuition, fees, books and supplies.  There is no cost to anyone accepted into the program! Transportation is the responsibility of the student.

This wonderful opportunity for our area high school students is possible through grant funds obtained in cooperation with our legislative delegation, especially Alabama Senate President Pro Tem Leader Greg Reed and the Alabama Community College System.

“I commend the administration at Bevill State for putting together an innovative program that will give motivated area high school students an opportunity to learn the skills necessary for success in technical career fields,” Reed said. “It was an honor to work with BSCC to secure support for Career Pathways Academy – the students who complete this program will be in an excellent position upon high school graduation to immediately start working at good-paying technical jobs or deepen the skills they have acquired with further work at a community college or university.”

Sophomores accepted to the Career Pathways Academy will attend a Robotics Program in the Summer before their junior year. In the summer before their senior year, students will attend a Career Exploration Camp with tours of manufacturing plants throughout the state.

Admission in the Career Pathways Academy is competitive and is decided by an application process including references and a resume. Student must have at least a 3.0 GPA to be eligible. Information can be found by contacting Maurice Ingle at 800.648.3271 ext. 5940 or at maurice.ingle@bscc.edu.
