“I’ve always loved helping people,” says Chase Gunter. “I always knew I wanted to care for others, and now, I enjoy knowing that I can make a difference in someone’s life.”

Since he was a child, Chase has had a servant’s heart. Growing up in Jasper, he had a normal childhood. Aside from attending school and church regularly, he also spent a lot of time with his family.

However, at the age of seven, one of Chase’s grandfathers passed away unexpectedly and at the age of 17 one of his grandmothers passed as well. Losing these special people in his life was very difficult for him.

“As a kid, when I lost my grandparents, I always wished there was something I could’ve done to help,” says Chase. “That really affected my decision to enter the medical field.”

After his high school graduation in 2008, Chase began taking classes at Bevill State Community College with the intention of earning a degree in nursing. He completed a bachelor’s degree at Jacksonville State University and went on to the University of South Alabama in Mobile to complete his master’s degree and earn his nurse practitioner certification.

“College was definitely challenging. By the time I started nurse practitioner school, I was married and starting a family. I had to juggle a family and being a full-time student, and sometimes it was a struggle,” recalls Chase.

In 2020, Chase became part-owner of Southeast Hospice, along with Alicia Stewart, Joette Kelley Brown, and Matt Cornelius. He also completed his schooling in 2021, graduating from The University of Alabama with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice.

Now, Chase is a primary care provider for both Ridgeview and Ridgewood Health Services. He oversees care for long-term residents in each nursing home and temporary post-acute patients, as well as provides hospice care for homebound patients at Southeast Hospice.

“My job can be difficult, but it’s so rewarding to care for these patients, and to see the impact and difference that I can make in their lives and their families,” says Chase.

For Dr. Chase Gunter, it was evident from an early age that his passion for serving others would become his purpose in life. At Southeast Hospice and Ridgeview and Ridgewood Health Services, Chase is able to assist those who are most vulnerable and in the greatest need. 78
