“I can change the world with my own two hands. Make a better place with my own two hands. Make a kinder place with my own two hands.” – Ben Harper

Dr. Jill Bivona displays a painting of this quote and the handprints of her late best friend, Mallory Burns on her office wal. This painting motivates her each day to follow her calling and make a difference in the Jasper community.

Jill grew up in Bessemer, Alabama with three older siblings. “We grew up in the woods, always outside playing. We even had a dinner bell for when it was time to go inside. We were just a wild group,” Jill laughs.

She attended elementary school in Bessemer and graduated from John Carroll Catholic High School before earning a degree in English and Art History from Birmingham-Southern College.

Several years ago, Jill’s brother, Jacob, moved to Jasper to work with Dr. John Branstetter, a local dentist. The current iteration of that dental practice is called Bivona Family Dental. Desiring to continue the family tradition, Jill began her prerequisites for medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), but soon, the course of her life changed forever when her best friend, Mallory, was killed in a car accident.

“I went back through some gifts she had given me and found the painting with the quote and her handprints on it,” says Jill. “Mallory had seemed very happy in chiropractic school, so I took that as my sign from God to honor my friend and make being a chiropractor my calling.”

While reluctant to leave her family, Jill moved to Atlanta to attend Life University.

“I didn’t know anything about being a chiropractor, so I kind of started my schooling on a whim,” says Jill.

After completing her studies, she moved back to Bessemer, working as an associate and independent contractor for around six years. Jill created a steady life for herself by building her client base from people around Birmingham, by getting married, and by starting a family.

In March 2022, after Dr. Wade O’Mary of Jasper was injured, making him unable to practice at his local chiropractic clinic, Jill began working a couple of days each week. She soon learned of an opportunity to buy his practice.

“After I started working here in Jasper, I became aware that it was time for me to leave Birmingham. God just laid it out for me,” says Jill.

In September 2022, Jill officially purchased the business and renamed it Bivona Chiropractic Clinic. She now resides in Jasper with her husband, four-year-old daughter, and two-year-old lab.

Though beginning her own practice was a leap of faith, Dr. Jill Bivona is proud to serve the Jasper community. In doing so, she is able to honor Mallory and follow God’s calling for her life. 78
