The game of bingo was invented in 1929, and through the years the U.S. 75-ball and U.K. 95-ball became the two dominant versions. But for Kim Johnsey in the year 2023, bingo is much more than a game.

Kim was raised in the Pumpkin Center community. She graduated from T.W. Martin High School in 1993 before earning her nursing degree from Bevill State Community College in 1996. A year after graduation, she got a job with Ridgeview Health Services, where she has held many positions throughout the years. Currently, she serves as the Assistant Director of Nursing.

Kim met her husband, Jeff, in high school and the two were married in August 1995. They have three daughters: Ariel, Annsley, and Aubrie. Ariel is 26 years old and married to Blake Stanley. Her middle daughter, Annsley, is 22 and a senior at the University of West Alabama (UWA) pursuing a teaching degree. Her youngest, Aubrie, is a senior at Jasper High School, where she holds the position of drum major. After graduation, Aubrie plans to attend The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) to pursue medical school.

When she isn’t at work, you can find Kim hanging out with her sisters, aunts, and cousins at their bingo group.

“My grandmother passed away almost two years ago, and after a couple of months, we started doing this,” Kim remembers. “We go and play bingo at her house. It is a way the twelve of us stay connected as well as keeping us connected to our grandmother.”

Kim is all about taking care of those she loves. Whether it is her own family, her relatives, or the men and women at Ridgeview Health Services, Kim spends her life pouring into the lives of others.

In turn, these individuals know there’s no luck involved. With Kim, they are in the best of hands. 78
