30 Under 30: Anna Katherine Herring

Biology Major at Ole Miss

Growing up, Anna Katherine Herring attended school in Jasper and cultivated her love for art and design. Now a student at Ole Miss, she’s on her way to changing lives.

Though Anna Katherine is a biology major on the pre-med track, she’s not entirely sure how the next couple of years will look. “It’s different for everyone on the pre-med track,” she says.

Anna Katherine became fascinated with becoming an Ob/Gyn after shadowing Dr. Talia Gates at Walker Women’s Specialists in Jasper. She will soon take the Medical School Admissions Test (MCAT) and will take a gap year, during which she is considering pursuing a master’s degree in Biomedical Science. A more creative option is still on the table, which could channel her inner artist: taking design classes in New York.

In the meantime, she is gaining plenty of experience by volunteering at the Urgent Care Clinic in Oxford.

Being the daughter of a small-town physician, Dr. Woody Herring, certainly has a strong pull, but Anna Katherine isn’t in a rush.

“There are still things I’m trying to figure out,” says Anna Katherine. “But that’s ok. Your twenties are the time to figure everything out.” 78
