Million Dollar Band drum major and Jasper native Brooke Elder says perseverance marks her journey through high school and collegiate band.

As a young girl, Brooke witnessed the talent and energy of the Million Dollar Band during the annual homecoming parade at The University of Alabama. In that moment she knew she wanted to be a part of the champion collegiate marching band.

Brooke auditioned for drum major her junior year at Jasper High School but did not obtain the position until her senior year. She then led the Viking band to a victory as 5A State Champions and won Best in Class Drum Major at every competition.

Continuing in champion tradition, Brooke joined the Million Dollar Band at The University of Alabama in 2019. History repeated itself when she tried out for drum major her freshman and sophomore years. However, in her junior year, she served as clarinet section leader. Finally, as a senior, Brooke achieved the honor of drum major.

Fueled by a passion for helping people, Brooke plans to attend medical school after graduating from Alabama.

“My life is meant to be devoted to helping other people,” Brooke says.

Leadership traits garnered from years leading the band will influence her practice as a physician. 78
