30 Under 30: Blake Hendrix
Aerospace Engineer
Have you ever watched something on TV or in a theater that has inspired you to do something? Blake Hendrix has, and now it has turned into a career.
Blake was born near Opelika but was raised in Jasper. He was educated through the Jasper City School system and was a part of the first graduating class at Jasper High School in 2017. He then went to The University of Alabama at Huntsville (UAH) to study aerospace engineering. He recently graduated from UAH with a Bachelor of Science in aerospace engineering in December 2021.
Blake first fell in love with aerospace engineering in high school.
“If you want me to tell you the truth, it was in my sophomore year of high school. I watched the movie Interstellar, and from that moment on, I knew I was going to be an aerospace engineer,” Blake confesses.
Interstellar showed Blake the ingenuity of engineering, how it can be a last line of defense, and how it impacts everything.
Since April 2022, Blake has worked as a Civilian Employee with the Army Aviation and Missile Center, specifically on the aviation side.
“I work on math modeling or simulating rotorcraft dynamics. So basically, I do the math as accurately as possible to simulate how a helicopter will fly,” Blake explained.
Blake’s dream job is to eventually work directly with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), helping with spacecraft design or rocket propulsion. 78
