BSCC Nursing

"My mom and God helped me through everything."

That’s how Zoe Ray believes she made it to where she is today. A 2021 Jasper High School graduate originally from Parrish, Zoe is currently in her fourth semester of nursing school at Bevill State Community College in Jasper. She is attending Bevill on scholarship offered by the Walker College Foundation.

"I always knew I was going to go into some sort of medical career," Zoe says.

Her father passed away from heart complications when she was only nine and it was never clear what led to his passing. Zoe has wanted to know why ever since, and that curiosity has led her down the path of medicine.

Outside of school, you might find her donning the purple and black at Planet Fitness in Jasper. She has been working there for a year and she says it has helped her de-stress through nursing school. "I do really enjoy working out,” she says. “And in a way that's something that probably has been more therapeutic than I give it credit for.”

After obtaining her RN degree, Zoe plans to pursue her bachelor's degree. She says that being a nurse practitioner and nurse anesthetist is something that interests her.

No matter the route she chooses, the field of nursing will be joined by a woman of character and integrity. 78
