The Bread That Gives Life
Taste and see that the LORD is good." - Psalm 34:8, NLT
"Yes, I am the bread of life!.... Anyone who eats the bread from heaven…will never die." - John 6:48, 50, NLT.
Oh, it was glorious! That lovely, sweet aroma wafting so temptingly down the lunchroom hallway. Freshly baked rolls! We knew it would be a very, very good day at Redmill Jr. High School when the smell of homemade bread was in the air!
Just the thought of those rolls on school mornings so long ago brings a smile to my face and a longing to my tastebuds. If you know, you know (amen, fellow Redmillians!). If you don't know, I'm so sorry. You missed out on one of the great, simple pleasures of life. Because those rolls were so heavenly, I'm convinced they will be atop the menu at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb!
As you're reading this, I hope you're thinking, "Wow, that sounds so delectable; I wish I could have one of those handheld baked perfections."
Sadly, that's a bread none of us gets to enjoy anymore since the school closed some years ago; however, there is another, better "Bread" available, a "Bread come down from Heaven," that I, and others, get to "taste" regularly. That Bread is Jesus, the "living Bread," who offers LIFE to all who will partake of His generous offer. I have accepted His offer, and by so doing, I have "tasted and seen that the Lord is indeed good."
For those of us who have received eternal life through Christ and who experience the daily nourishment that comes from feasting on the Bread of His Word, our challenge is to live in such a way that the "aroma" of our joyful Christ-following creates a hunger in those who do not yet know about the wonderful promises and benefits found in the Bread of Life.
As we purposely, and with loving intent for Christ and our neighbors, flesh this out, our lives become radiant testimonies of the goodness of God. In this way, we truly become His witnesses.
Many years ago, I ran across this powerful quote: "Witnessing is one beggar telling another beggar where to get Bread."
That's it. That's all. It's not complicated. It doesn't take a seminary degree to be a witness for Christ. All that is needed is the willingness to graciously and generously share the Bread we have so freely received.
I'd love to have the pleasure of sharing a "Redmill roll" with you, but since that's not possible, I invite you to partake of the Bread of LIFE, the Bread come down from Heaven, Jesus Christ our Lord.
"Taste and see that the Lord is good!" It will be the best decision you have ever made, I promise. Take it from one who has tasted that Bread.
A fellow beggar along the Way,
Greg
