Every day, Dr. Paige Lester combines art and science to help patients feel proud of their smiles. As the owner and operator of Healthy Smiles of Birmingham, she leads a family and cosmetic dentistry practice focused on delivering high-quality care in a welcoming, non-judgmental environment.

A 1992 graduate of Walker High School, Paige went on to earn both her undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Alabama. When she decided to pursue dentistry, she began exploring schools and found herself craving an adventure beyond the familiar. New York called her name. Acceptance letter in hand, she headed north to the New York University College of Dentistry, where she would spend the next four years.

“At first, I had to get used to it. We are used to slow pace and southern hospitality, then you move to New York and everybody is hustle and bustle,” says Paige. “They’re blunt, but once I adapted, I really liked it.”

The Big Apple had its appeal, but after graduation, the Jasper native felt the pull of home. She returned to Alabama in 2002 and began her career in dentistry, quickly discovering her passion for cosmetic work and the immediate, visible joy it could bring to patients.

“I like it because it can be life-changing to take someone with a smile they dislike and give them a smile they feel confident with,” says Paige. “And when they get teary-eyed when they see, it is just rewarding. I like the beauty of it and just being able to give someone that instant gratification.”

Not long after returning to Alabama, a dental supply representative mentioned that Dr. Jim Clark, a dentist in Birmingham, was seeking a partner for his practice, Healthy Smiles of Birmingham. When they met, they connected instantly, sharing a love for dentistry and a commitment to patient-centered care. They became business partners, planning for Paige to buy out the practice within five years. Life moved quickly, and by 2011, just four years later, Paige had purchased the remaining half, becoming the full owner and operator.

Today, her practice offers a comprehensive range of services, from routine checkups to full-mouth reconstructions, with a focus on truly understanding each patient’s individual needs and goals.

“My goal is for people to feel welcome here,” says Paige. “We want to listen to what they want; we want them to feel heard, and we want them to feel comfortable.”

Through her work, Paige changes lives one smile at a time. Over the years, she has watched her patients grow up, with some now bringing their own children to see her. Outside the office, when she’s not chauffeuring her two kids to softball games, baseball practices, or marching band events, Paige enjoys hiking and spending time at Smith Lake with her husband and family.

In every season of life, Paige’s steady hands and calm presence remind patients that a visit to the dentist can be a place where care feels personal, trust runs deep, and confidence is restored one bright smile at a time. 78
