Soul of 78: Two dishes you absolutely must try at Five Loaves Bakery

Noon hits and it’s time for your lunch break. How you spend your lunch hour could go many different ways. Maybe you have a go-to restaurant and order the same trusted item off the menu every time. Maybe you and your coworkers spend most of the hour just trying to decide on a place to eat. Maybe you pack a PB & J from home and call it a day.

Regardless of how you’ve spent your time in lunch breaks past, you simply have to try Five Loaves Bakery before the month is over.

Five Loaves is the perfect lunch spot for those in search of a little twist on Southern comfort—and tasty dessert options, too! It’s no secret that this bakery has become a local favorite since its grand opening in 2018.

The bakery’s daily specials menu features a variety of Five Loaves favorites at lunch-friendly prices. One of the more popular specials is the Honey Mustard Bacon Glazed Salmon. Five Loaves chef Dalton Dunn prepared this dish for me when I paid the bakery a visit in August and I can say with full confidence that it exceeded all expectations.

Five Loaves is open for breakfast 6-10 a.m. and for lunch 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday. They are also open for brunch on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and offer a specialized menu just for Saturday brunch.

This crowd-favorite dish features decadent Scottish salmon with a honey mustard glaze topped with fresh spring onion and smokey bacon pieces.

“It’s easily one of our best-sellers and a really great combination of flavors,” says Chef Dunn.

The glaze and bacon pieces give the dish a powerhouse combination of salty and sweet. The light crunch of the salmon’s crust juxtaposes its tender filet and a fresh side salad makes the perfect pair.

This meal is the perfect pick-me-up during the workday because it is filling but not weighty.

“You can make this dish heavier or lighter depending on the sides,” Chef Dunn says. He recommends a pairing of mashed potatoes with mixed vegetables or green beans.

Guests can also look forward to trying out the bakery’s pork roulade that will be featured on their fall menu. Chef Dunn plans to prepare this dish with sweet potatoes and cornbread, making it the perfect comfort food dish for autumn. 78
