Ninth grade is an interesting time in a young person’s life. Suddenly, these 14- and 15-year-olds are thrown into a new environment and must quickly piece together the individuals they wish to become. Micah Pledger is no exception.

The young student-athlete has already given thought to his future and is shooting high.

Like most high school football players, Micah would love to play professionally one day—and he just might. Even at his young age, the running back has already clocked an impressive 4.7-second 40-yard dash and has a taste for the physicality of the game. Last season, the freshman running back totaled over 1,000 yards and averaged 5.8 yards per carry.

But there is another aspect he appreciates even more.

“I love the sportsmanship of football,” Micah said. “There’s a level of respect in this game that makes it different.”

There is a reason Micah identifies with the ideas of sportsmanship and respect in athletics. Those who meet him immediately notice his humble spirit.

And though he has plenty to brag about in the athletic world, he prefers to simply be a respected teammate. So, it makes sense that his future plans are just as respectable.

“If I can make it to the NFL, I of course would love to do that,” he said. ”Otherwise, I think I’d like to be a firefighter.”

Regardless of what his future holds, it seems almost certain that Micah is going to make a lot of people proud. 78
