Although members of Rodney Pruett’s family have owned local businesses for several decades, following in their footsteps was never part of his plan.

In the 1980s, Rodney got his first taste of home improvement when he worked for a flooring company. Later, his career path took him into the car business, where he worked as a finance manager.

But it all came full circle in 2002 when he decided to launch his own construction business and began to recruit workers who had experience in different areas. Around 2005, he decided on “Home Pros Construction” for his business name. As the business grew, he added roofing to his repertoire.

Today, the primary focus of Home Pros Roofing and Construction is on exterior improvements: roof replacements, hardie board and vinyl siding replacements, as well as building decks, porches, sunrooms, garages, and home additions.

For the last 15 years, Pruett and his crew have worked on hundreds of homes and businesses in Walker, Winston, Cullman, Jefferson and Fayette counties. While there are several aspects of his career that Pruett enjoys, he cites improving people’s homes and building positive relationships with his customers and community as two of the most rewarding parts of the job.

Pruett attributes much of the company’s success to the loyal crew who has worked alongside him during that time. The business relationships and even friendships that Pruett and his crew cultivated have allowed Home Pros to work for several generations of the same families. “Everywhere we go, our customers tell me how much they enjoyed the guys and how fortunate I am to have them working with me,” he says. “I couldn’t agree more.”

A typical week for Home Pros usually involves a roofing job and construction job running concurrently, with Pruett’s days being spent back and forth between the two job sites. “First and foremost, our goal is for the job to be done correctly the first time and always for our customers to be satisfied with the process and finished product,” Pruett says.

So just like his brother Donnie, his father Don, and his grandfather K.T., Rodney has served this community and surrounding areas as a business owner. And because of him, many people can sleep well at night knowing a solid roof is over their head. 78
