Since 1961, the Walker Farmer’s Cooperative has provided local Walker County residents and farmers with affordable outdoor and farming supplies. More than 60 years later, their mission and passion to serve the community remains the same.

Cody King, who serves as manager, grew up around the store. His mother worked as the business’s bookkeeper for 16 years, while his stepfather managed the store for over 30 years before he retired. In high school, Cody often spent his summers working at the store, helping in any way he could.

After graduating from Auburn University in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in horticulture, Cody returned to the Cooperative and followed in his mother and stepfather’s footsteps. Today, he uses his knowledge and passion of all things outdoors to help local farmers and residents.

The Co-op offers just about anything related to outdoor labor or activities. From gardening and animal health supplies to livestock needs and soil sampling, they have it all. The Co-op furnishes a wide variety of feed as well, including poultry feed, swine feed, sweet feed, horse feed, cattle feed, goat feed, sheep feed, and dog feed.

“I really want people to know that we can help with so many things that it’s hard to list them all,” Cody explains.

In addition to having an abundant stock of supplies, they also have a spreader truck that enables them to deliver custom fertilizer and lime applications to customer’s fields or yards. Need gravel or mulch delivered to your home? They can help with that too!

“We will go as far as West Jefferson, Arley, Addison, etc. We will drive and deliver a pretty good ways,” Cody says.

Cody’s main goal for the store is to continue to be a place where customers can come for affordable and quality outdoor supplies and services. “Anything we can do to try to help the customers and the community—that is what we want to do.” 78
