Since 2012, Bayou Fresh Seafood has been serving Walker County with the freshest variety of seafood and sushi around. While it’s known around these parts as “gas station sushi” due to sharing real estate with Walston Bridge Road’s Fuel Co., the cuisine of Bayou Fresh far exceeds the expectations set by hearing that phrase. People travel from far and wide to sample the fare that has been recognized by the likes of Southern Living, but the heart and soul of Bayou Fresh is its regular local customers.

78 Magazine spoke with some of those regular locals to source ideas and recommendations for what to order. Here’s what they had to say when we asked, “What do you order at Bayou Fresh?”

Jeremy Whitley

“I eat at Bayou Fresh sometimes 2 to 3 times a week! It’s very conveniently located, and the food is always fresh. One of my go-to orders is the B1 Combo; it's 8 pieces of spicy tuna roll, 2 tuna nigiri and 2 salmon nigiri. I also enjoy the Rockin’ Roll and different variations of the lunch box combos. If you’re not a sushi eater, I definitely recommend the grilled fish!”

 Tori Ingram

“Crab legs aren’t always available on the menu, but when they are, you better run to get some! They’re fresh, juicy, and seasoned just right. Having a really good, dependable seafood provider like this in Walker County is a very nice thing.”

“There’s not many places like Bayou Fresh! I eat here several times a month. I’m not much of a sushi eater, but I really like the blackened tilapia and the shrimp. The service is also very consistent and nice!”

Harold Jones, Brody Gurganus, Chris Crawford

“Peeled, deveined and steamed shrimp, the spicy tuna roll, and the Crazy Roll (shrimp tempura and crab with spicy mayo sauce). Bayou Fresh has the freshest sushi around. It’s a good place to come sit down for lunch without taking up tons of time, and the folks here make it worth coming back again and again.”

Brianna Rigsby and Brandi Peterson

“Always the Rockin’ Roll! On the inside is shrimp tempura, crab, and cream cheese, and on the outside, it’s topped with spicy crab, crawfish, jalapeno, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. It’s hard to go wrong with a combination like that.”

“When I think, ‘Bayou Seafood’, the Rockin’ Roll, Dancing Dragon Roll, and Money Roll are always in my mental rotation for sushi. However, if it’s been a long day at work and I’m in the mood for a Hungry Man’s large, fried supper, I like the popcorn shrimp plate with fries or even the fried seafood platter. No matter the dish, you’ll walk away feeling a sense of satisfaction.” 78
