“Historic day for Walker County” - Roadwork to Begin Soon

The Walker County Commission approved a $6.8 million ARPA revenue replacement on Monday and these funds will be directed toward improving roads in the county.

Each of the four county districts will receive $1.7 million for road projects—$700,000 per district will be allocated initially and the remaining $1 million per district allocated when funding comes in on June 1.

“Improving county roads is our number one priority, and we are excited that these funds can go toward road projects in each district,” said Commission Chair Steve Miller. “This is a historic day for Walker County.”

Several of the commissioners talked specifics on the road projects and the consensus of the Commission was positivity.

“The funds from ARPA will go toward asphalting projects in District 1,” said District 1 Commissioner Keith Davis. “We're hoping to finish up the last five miles of Smith Lake Dam Road first.”

“In District 2, we have primary roads that need asphalt, and this ARPA funding allows that to be taken care of so that we can begin to focus our attention on secondary roads,” said District 2 Commissioner Jeff Burrough.

“The Brown's Bridge project is at long last about to be underway, and District 3 is excited for that,” stated District 3 Commissioner Jim Borden. “In addition to the road projects, we have a lot of better, greater things ahead of us, and that is promising.”

“There are so many good things are going on in Walker County, and we're going to keep heading on that trajectory. The road funding, in particular, is vitally important and we're excited to start making progress on those projects,” said District 4 Commissioner Steven Aderholt. 78
