Persistent Flooding Issues Repaired At Jasper Housing Authority

Jasper Housing Authority is pleased to announce significant improvements made to the housing authority facilities. 

Over the last few years, large amounts of rain have contributed to the erosion of the ground in the Coke Oven branch of the facilities, allowing for floods that create accessibility issues to housing authority apartments and have even temporarily displaced some families from their homes.

In accordance with a $2.2 Million Emergency Grant from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and with a contribution of $275,000 from the City of Jasper, Jasper Housing Authority partnered with McGehee Engineering to repair the erosion and prevent further flooding.

"We're thankful to the City of Jasper and to McGehee Engineering for helping us work to repair this problem. We strive to ensure our residents are living in suitable facilities, and this stormwater drainage project helps us make certain that is happening," says Jasper Housing Authority Executive Director Marla Tucker-Corbell.

"This is a significant improvement for the Housing Authority facilities, and we are pleased that the City of Jasper could be a part of making the grant a reality," said Jasper Mayor David O'Mary.

The project started in August 2021 and is expected to be completed by April 30, 2022.
