Senator Greg Reed Announces $4.9 Million Grant for High-Speed Internet Service in Walker County
Senator Greg Reed (R-Jasper) today announced that Walker County has secured a $4.9 million project for high-speed internet through the Alabama Department of Economic Affairs.
With more than 240 miles of fiber optic lines installed, this project will have the capacity to reach more than 2,000 site locations including homes, businesses, and community anchor institutions such as schools, healthcare providers, and first responders across the Oakman and Nauvoo communities.
“I am thrilled about the opportunities that this monumental grant will bring to the Oakman and Nauvoo communities within Walker County. With this grant, over 2,000 homes and businesses will have access to high-speed internet and other mobile services,” said Senator Greg Reed. “These areas have been unserved for far too long but due to the legislature’s unwavering commitment and support for broadband expansion, the time has finally come.”
The project is anticipated to begin October 2022 and will be completed in phases. For more information, please contact the Alabama Department of Economic Affairs.
