As a child, Adam Mummey was inspired by his father, Earl, the owner of Mummey Builders, Inc., to start his own business. Today, Adam says he is blessed to be a family man and owner of Mummey Lawn Service, a full-service, year-round lawn care company. Check out this exclusive 78 Magazine Q&A to get a glimpse of Adam's life and career.

78: Tell us about your background. Where did you grow up, and what was it like?

AM: I was born in Birmingham but raised in Jasper. I love the small-town atmosphere here and making this home for our family.

78: Where did you go to school, and what did you study in college?

AM: I went to Sumiton Christian, then to Bevill State to play baseball. After two years, I transferred to the University of West Alabama, where I studied physical education.

78: What inspired you to start Mummey Lawn Service, and what is your favorite thing about running your business?

AM: I was inspired to start Mummey Lawn Service by watching my dad run his business, Mummey Builders Inc., when I was growing up. He taught me a lot as I worked for him, and I always hoped to have my own business. Now, my favorite thing about my career is seeing the finished product and making my clients happy.

78: What services does your business offer?

AM: My services include year-round lawn maintenance, cutting, weed eating, edging, hedge trimming, leaf clean-up, and installation of straw & mulch.

78: What does a typical day in your life look like?

AM: A typical day starts at 7:00 a.m. and usually finishes around 6:30 p.m. My day involves servicing 8-10 yards from Jasper to Smith Lake. I am very blessed to have so many great clients who feel more like family. After work, it's family time. My wife, Ashley, and our daughters, Dallas and Sadie, enjoy being outside by the pool or riding around the property on the Pioneer. We have two dogs, Remi and Murphy, and a few chickens. My daughters love collecting eggs and learning how to manage a tiny farm.

78: Lastly, a fun question - what is your go-to meal in Walker County?

AM: A local family favorite is Cabo San Lucas restaurant. I take my wife and kids every Friday for date night. The fajitas are our favorite! 78
