Stroke of Genius
Jeremy Camp isn’t some guy who randomly picked up a paint brush one day and decided to start a business. A native of Jasper, Jeremy hadn’t quite reached his sixteenth birthday the first time he donned a painter’s cap. “I actually started in Louisiana, painting restaurants,” he says. “I worked with a company called Great South Construction, out of Pelham.”Jeremy later moved to Montgomery and painted homes at Wynlakes Golf Club. In 1997, he came back home to Jasper. That year he barely had time to rinse out his paint brush between jobs. “We did about thirty-nine houses that year, two churches, and two schools,” he recalls. He’s done painting work on the Holiday Inn Express on Highway 78, Maddox Middle School, T.R. Simmons School, Walker High School, Northside Baptist Church, and Midway Church of Christ. In 2000 he formed his own business, Camp’s Painting Commercial and Residential. One of their first jobs was working for James and Billie Ingle on an 1898 Victorian home located on Sixth Avenue. “It was a complete renovation, and a lot of detail work went into the paint job,” he says.Camp’s Painting has also done work on the Masonic Lodge building downtown, the Daily Mountain Eagle building, and has just completed a three year project for Camp McDowell. “We’ve done everything from Section 8 homes to twenty-four story condos. We also do a lot of lake homes, like Smith Lake, Wilson Bend, and Cold Springs,” he says.Jeremy emphasizes they can handle any job, but that doesn’t mean the work comes cheap. “Wecharge a little more,” he says. “We don’t cut corners. We go the extra mile. There’s not going to be a job that’s unsatisfactory to you.”He sums it up with a phrase that’s painted on the side of his trucks:“On the job where confidence and workmanship makes a difference, to make any job complete.” 78To contact Camp’s Painting Commercial and Residential, phone 205-307-8350.
